Officially an RN

Sorry for the delay on the post everybody. I was out celebrating a close friend's wedding who graduating nursing school with me Saturday night. Congratulations to Steve and Jady by the way! Now for the big news......

I passed! I'm officially a Registered Nurse! This is a time to celebrate for me but also a time to sweat a bit too. Now everything is on me. I'm no longer a nursing student who is learning the skills of nursing without a license. I am a professional with a license and everything that goes along with it. It is liberating and frightening all at once.

Two weeks from today I begin orientation at Children's Hospital. My dream of becoming a NICU nurse has come true after years of hard work. Now that August is ending it seems odd to not be meticulously organizing my notebook for next quarter and staining pages of $300 textbooks with bright yellow highlighters. The next step is here and I can't wait to jump in feet first.

CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS!!!!! I know what it's like...you feel like you should be starting classes but nope, now it's time for the REAL work ;). Nice job. Carson and Eli are growing so fast, I can't believe how big Eli has gotten!

Congratulations, Kellie!!
I "know" you from the Preemie Parenting board on BC, and always admired your sound advice and your strength. I found your blog and caught up: congrats on the boys doing so well, too: they look great.
I had seriously considered becoming a NICU nurse after the NICU experience (I wonder if many preemie parents do??), but for me it would have meant completely changing careers (I'm a PhD economist), and in the end I didn't have the guts to do it!
Anyway, CONGRATS again! What an accomplishment: you should be proud!

CONGRATS. What an accomplishment. I envy you. I think you are going to be a wonderful NICU nurse and who better than a mother of preemies herself. Thanks for being there for me when I needed you. Tracy

You're welcome Tracy. I think that a g-tube w/o fundo is definately worth a shot for James. Starting out with the fundo right off the bat is pretty serious considering he isn't having the life-threatening respiratory events or esophageal cell changes (Barrett's esophagus) that lead to cancer. I will keep you guys in my prayers that the g-tube will help James get back on his feet and put those few pounds on that he needs. Give you little cutie pie a high five from me and let me know if you have any pre-op questions or care questions. I have all kinds of fun tricks for securing the tube, etc for postop.
